Again and Again

These schedules that
we live by
must’a been made
to be broken.
No sane person
can possibly adhere.

Up at seven—
Work at nine—
Lunch at twelve—
Off at five—
Dinner six-thirty—
Walk ‘till eight—
Write until eleven—
Bed by midnight.

Then get up
do it again…
again…and again.
I did a
bastardized version for
years, quickly becoming
bored f—ing stiff.

What a structure!
Such a commitment!
Happy in retirement.

I shall quote:

“A foolish consistency
is the hobgoblin
of little minds”.
(-Ralph Waldo Emerson)

I quote again:

“I wouldn’t work
if you paid me.”

– S. A. Gerber
