A bit about Sharon: Narratives have always been my compass whenever I create a portfolio of art or writing poetry. With poetry I only have to look around me to absorb the impact of experience or patch together the flotsam and jetsam of a faded dream. For my artwork, I begin with a “germ” of a concept and since I prefer not to storybook the work, the series often evolves into an unexpected conclusion, with plot and image twists, turns, and the occasional “aha!” moment along the way.

As an artist or writer, it seems I am influenced by every artist I discover; I am, however, particularly indebted to Francis Bacon, Joseph Cornell, and Elliott Hundley. And since my work is suffused in narratives, I must recognize the Brothers Grimm, Lewis Carroll, James Tate, the folk customs of rural Louisiana, and my mother, Louise O’Callaghan, who early-on captivated my imagination with her Irish-Catholic tales.
