The Unsustainability of Bugs Tracking Bread Crumbs

featured in the poetry forum September 9, 2014  :: 0 comments

Shooing away sparrows to make room to dance legs over lectures,
Their paternity, at last’s become the latest celebration, leftovers
Notwithstanding. Physical energy can’t be as ugly as slugs.

If critters can’t help but be servile to predators, it’s best to shelter them;
Cat-loving grandfathers abound; they come a cropper to living rooms.
Fend off insensitive directions, thereafter, remain more than horrific.

Consider the sexist episode of one American professor, an old bachelor,
Caught amidst the abundant pinching of cheeks and noses, grinning
At little girls (alongside some adults, calibrations got regulated).

Accordingly, the door to room six, in that neighborhood of stone, decked
High and higher with lanais, near the parking area closest to boxes, brings
Extended family, other white collar crime, adultery as exercise plus entertainment.

It remains undesirable to allow bugs to track bread crumbs. We’re wiser when
Training roaches, millipedes, human creepy crawlies, the separation of responsibilities
From pleasures. Extra effort’s needed with elders intent on bad goings on.

Round, Pop, Shout

featured in the poetry forum June 11, 2014  :: 0 comments

Round, pop, shout over aspidistra jungles.
Pout when adolescents dare fail to coruscate.
Don’t let it show, though, if fire departments,
Principals, even janitors, interfere. Hug social media.

Hovering near chemistry lab closets fetch nothing;
Sowing file upon file of empty advertising, too, lacks.
Only ombre-toned hair, half matted in phony dreadlocks,
Or partially shaved from heads, can resuscitate dead networks.

Nonetheless, dreaming’s still free. Fantasy costs zilch.
Riding up and down department store escalators, likewise
Especially in condemned buildings, where fire trucks’ actions,
Resulted in weak and helpless moments, bring about taffy pulls.

Camphor, lithium amide, sulfur are susceptible to exploding.
There’s little chance nose pickers ever evolve into champions;
The underdogs’ guardians are required to possess clean hands, feet.
Alternatively, they employ katanas to cut down bullies, spread peanut butter.

Elsewise, goodie two shoes sandwich themselves on donkeys’ markabs,
Inhale stuff like ketamine, chew betel leaves, belch, perhaps flatulate regularly;
No rescue comes from nonruminant animals chewing phytates, spitting at strangers.
Stumping, though, busies bodies, even impacts those trussed in morphsuits, gives thrills.

Accordingly, legerdemain among natives tired of kissing begets blithe
Relationships, casts off emotions, possibly removes unwanted progeny.
Considers as best actors, those in groups who repeat again, again, again.
Claim others’ words as theirs, hiccup when locked in latrines. It happens.

Adolescent trickery absolves good intentions. Sparkle plenty! – mh

Contemporary Coupling (a Ballad)

featured in the poetry forum April 6, 2014  :: 0 comments

Two gals decked in ribbons,
Some gents sporting tails.
Went swirling ‘round the dance floor,
‘til the women swapped their males.

Hi de hi ho,
Hi de hi hee,
The russet one’s
The man for me.

My partner spoke in riddles.
That link, he ragged my brain.
He answered but a little,
So I’d see him again.

Hi de hi ho,
Hi de hi hee,
The russet one’s
The man for me.

We talked until the new sun,
Floated up the sky.
My resistance became undone;
He was a clever guy.

Hi de hi ho,
Hi de hi hee,
The russet one’s
The man for me.

Next, we supped together,
Strolling, shopping, all the same.
My code was growing thinner,
While I hardly knew his name.

Hi de hi ho,
Hi de hi hee,
The russet one’s
The man for me.

My best girl, she thought love was
Coloring my cheeks.
She pointed toward a single cause,
Though we’d coupled just a week.

Hi de hi ho,
Hi de hi hee,
The russet one’s
The man for me.

A fortnight, still together,
The russet one and I.
I might last near forever,
With this the red-haired guy.

Hi de hi ho,
Hi de hi hee,
The russet one’s
The man for me.

Conversation

Two birds, on a wire, talked.
One winged away, not glancing back;
Its partner persisted romance.

Rebels cause much outlier disease.
Flaneauses’ lame narratives,
By nature, possess metabolic speed.

When waking from dreams, finding
Forked tongues smelling our toes,
We ought to consider conceding.

Remember, boulangeries confer samples;
Common plants’ therapeutic benefits normally
Can’t calm our backwater kingdom.

Avian angsts hatch kingdom controversies. Best to talk it over! – mh

Certain Parameters

featured in the poetry forum December 18, 2013  :: 0 comments

Certain parameters’ brief fictions might get played out
When undertakings, trounced by sparrows, wrens, select jays,
Surge with songs of desolate places, evil sensations, analytical beadles,
Vast tracts of memorized texts.

Portended invertebrate victories, thereafter, could be minimized
According to rare energy pockets, motes, music, mayhem of the electronic sort,
Glimmering from everything arrayed between parenting and religion,
Such martial visions of discrete goals.

Parts of service chanted from ambos, could blur
Because of life’s demarcations, spreading chestnut arbors, constituent atoms,
Spinning due to computer simulations meant to determine rainfall,
Cups of letters exploded off of pages.

Projects essential to maintaining systematic interaction fail
Despite bright floral carpets studded with burnet, smallage, skirret,
Generating structural modifications, redefinition, other incalculable help,
Uncommon folk’s workaday tapestries.

Chainmail-decked lords, thus get stymied, can’t exercise
Although print editors, peer reviews, SEO gurus, all text families,
Array desired properties, create enough expose’ for multiple audiences,
Magnetic exchanges juxtaposed with pocket money.

Eating Peas

featured in the poetry forum October 6, 2013  :: 0 comments

Eating peas,
Like popping bubble wrap,
Most often, regardless of school,
Obscures chitchat, fantasy play, kin.

Kissing frogs,
Getting work into print,
Making snide remarks, offsets
Responsibilities to book publishers.

Eschewing notions,
Perhaps, brings about science,
Meant, decades ago, to sort out
Differences of zonkeys, zebroids, okapis.

Taking up basket weaving,
Mirroring The Big Island’s vogue,
In semantics, rhetoric, ethics, pedagogy,
Banishes potential commonplaces, outsells recognition.

Flapping discourse,
Substituting for functional kitchens,
Temporarily grants welcome to negotiated insights
Bring forward ministrations focused on siblings, cousins, dogs.

Generating words,
Ghostwriting sociology or psychology texts,
In spits of small numbers meant for outsourcing,
Kindly predisposes some aliens, standardized patients, doves.

Accommodating random realities,
Easing dreamy expressions breath by breath,
Making eschewed poetry explode, dance the rhumba,
Causes truth to stumble into arabesques, improved turnout.

editors note:

Such surreal and sideways syllogisms do not make plain cause and effect but do twist truth titillatingly to one turn goodly deserved. So, yes, eat your peas. (Congrats to KJ on her recently released book, “Citrus-Inspired Ceramics,” published by Aldrich Press.) – mh

The Warrior’s Mother

featured in the poetry forum April 6, 2013  :: 0 comments

The warrior’s mother, all peacock attitude, prayers, plus Galil submachine gun,
Settles, frustrated, at an ersatz table built of wood and bone; she loathes the enemy.
Euphony, as Mama knows, means cries, screams, railing in the night, sounding off,
Those others intend, insidiously, to kill her boys. Mama deploys, accordingly, subversions.

She dreams, as well, of questionable warfare, of not limiting herself,
Of employing mobile extermination squads, poison gases, infectious diseases,
Random acts of pillaging, and unpredictable executions of POWs,
But bad characters, those who harbor lice, plague, attitude, wash up the media.

So, when tired from envisaging the offing of bandits,
from imagining the flaying of malevolents,
Mama dabs her forehead with cloth, adjusts her kerchief,
rubs on lipstick, smiles pretty;
News bureaus obfuscate in line with evil’s agenda.
Witnesses hide black, disproportionate force,
Indiscriminate rocket attacks, the use of white phosphorous,
most iniquities wrought by “them.”

That side’s creation of orphans, disregard of appendages,
illicit building, gall, sells popcorn.
As such, foreign lies, depravation,
tank shells full of depleted uranium, knife attacks,
Exaggerated accounts, retouched pictures, castrations of truth,
yet severe maternal conveyances.
Those nefarious actions bring Mama to knees of weariness,
until they awaken her martial heart.

editors note:

Don’t want to be this mother’s little helper, but orphans and lost appendages are not a fair trade. The game is rigged!! – mh

Falling Cradleless through Spring’s Evening Boughs

featured in the poetry forum January 26, 2013  :: 0 comments

She could abide by the spring’s evening boughs,
Be wowed when zephyrs sided softly with hummingbirds.

Such heard tones, audible gossamers, were as dandelion parachutes,
Suitably montaged, drifting clear of mortgages, old laundry, coupon clippings.

Chippering bands, though, wondered places his head next graced,
Facing sunset-hued beauties, jetting off, skittering beyond her reach.

Teaching nothing of acceptance’s better pathos. Why try
Flying from cradles; enough crashing resounds infidelity’s squeak.

Peaks of “drug-resistance” choices spun harder, faster. After a measure,
His pleasure transformed as not trophies or quests, but just thin ego trickles.

Tickling all manners of verities. Moonlight’s sleepless howls,
Bower-ridden, anyway, might have suddenly sired rapid penalties.

Wee breezes, nocturnal gusts, called forth alternate forms,
Wore down moments where lust melted hallow. Dreams denied, fascinations settled.

Mettle, mores, plain city ethics, political correctness, make no difference to some bums,
Like him, a husband/father intent on leaving panty trails across urban hillsides.

After Daddy’s indiscretions, who wouldn’t prefer the cradle o’er the creep? – mh

The Empyrean, Principality of Young Ages

featured in the poetry forum November 20, 2012  :: 0 comments

Her hands are too small for
Reaching the typewriter return.
The toilet lever’s as impossible as
Those poker playing housewives

Winning twice; child of abuse, and
Alcohol’s strange moons,
She’s pure fire, that empyrean,
Principality of young ages.

Inhabitants of the nose-bleed section, incapable of line feeds or flushes, expect we’ll use our imaginations; if we really want to know. – mh

A June Full of Cherries

featured in the poetry forum September 22, 2012  :: 0 comments

Piquant, yet tender, portrayals of festivities’ “field kitchens”
Forgive lapses such as young beasties, insufficiently protected points of view,
Great accidents of interest, the merged foci of welcoming, disbanding, hugging,
Also dressing in gold spandex, belly dancing, weaving baskets, noting
What’s working for whom, and why, tasting, maybe teasing,
Playing with prefixes, acting wonky, listening to exclamations,
Plus skipping along peripheral places makes for forgetting staid rubrics.

When sloughing worldly woes, celebrating significant events,
Consuming even minute amounts of funky antimeria, during alternate decades,
It’s possible to categorize material goods, let alone affective states, tayras,
Human relationships (patterned both tacit and affective), trilobites, glabrous birds,
As belonging to solid-hoofed herbivorous quadruped or other vehicles’ barns
Meant to entertain visa via ornaments, food, drink, actualized space, vessels,
Likewise the compelled restoration of pumpkin crowns or thornbushes, works.

Other times, those of mind-muddle mode, find it difficult to regard
Disruptions amicably, to smile, to say nothing, or, perhaps, to interact quietly,
Guest in pediatric wards, receive mistaken attributions causality,
Get elected because of money or connections, override baser inclinations,
Ignore global societies, local neighborhoods, and familial conundrums,
Combine behavioral modifications for purposes of suck, grandeur, climate,
Additionally, post publishers’ letters on refrigerators, all while spinning in circles.

Most often, though, cats lull innocently, whereas hounds snore, worms whistle,
Chickadee ringleaders and Komodo dragon catalysts glibly forecast entire
Epics for good findings, comradely inspiration, and conceptualized work.
Burnt toast, bitter coffee, broken eggs, too, make for playful family times,
Distinct units of innocent, mentalists’ gymnastics, deadly mustelids, plus pungent
Cycles of socks, big skirts, small spices, deflected ants, termites, and do-gooders.
Alternatively, in June, bowls full of cherries get agitated. A mom can dream.

editors note:

Yes, eaten all at once, a bowl full of these may cause tummy (&head)ache. So, eat these one verse at a time; enjoy their sweet sensation of words upon words, let them roll on your tongue, bounce around in your mind. Be thankful for this dreaming mom. – mh
